Statement by the Federation of Kurdish Women on the 12th Anniversary of the Yazidi Genocide
Proud sisters and mothers of the victims and survivors of
the Yazidi Kurdish genocide Resilient women and citizens of Kurdistan
12 years ago, on August 3, 2014, one of the most brutal and
inhumane crimes of the modern century was committed against an indigenous
component of our society. On that dark day, terrorists from the radical
"ISIS" organization attacked the city of Sinjar and its surrounding
areas. As a result of this savage onslaught, the civilian population of that
region faced displacement, devastation, mass killings, abductions, and
genocide.
We at the Federation of Kurdish Women, while viewing this
painful remembrance as part of the bloody history of our nation, extend our
profound respect and appreciation to the resilience, perseverance, and dignity
of grieving mothers, struggling women, and all the families of the victims of
this tragedy—who, despite severe pain and hardship, preserved their national
and religious identity.
Our oppressed sisters...
With its attacks, ISIS overtly inflicted immense
psychological and physical trauma upon Yazidi women through sexual enslavement,
multi-faceted violations, and attempts to dismantle the identity and
demographics of the region. Under international law, all of these behaviors
fall squarely into the categories of the crime of genocide and crimes against
humanity.
On this tragic remembrance, the Federation of Kurdish Women
expresses its complete readiness to provide any deserving service to the
families of the victims and the cause of the Yazidi genocide, while emphasizing
the following points:
We urgently call for the establishment and activation of a
specialized court at both international and national levels to bring ISIS
perpetrators to justice and try them for the grave crimes they committed
against Yazidi women and children.
We stress the necessity of accelerating efforts to locate
and free those abducted women and children whose fates remain unknown,
alongside providing psychological and social support to the survivors.
We call upon the Federal Government of Iraq to fulfill its
constitutional duty in the fair compensation of victim families, the dignified
return of displaced persons to their ancestral homelands, and the
implementation of the Sinjar Agreement to normalize the situation in the region
and rebuild it.
We praise the steps taken by parliaments and countries
worldwide in recognizing this catastrophe as genocide, and we call for
intensified international efforts to protect the rights of minority components.

catastrophe, let us all together advance the struggle against extremist
ideologies and violence against women, and channel all our efforts toward
healing the wounds of our Yazidi sisters.
Glory to the pure souls of all martyrs of Kurdistan and the
victims of the Yazidi genocide.
