Statement and Congratulations from the Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation on the 34th Anniversary of the Kurdistan Uprising
On this historic day, March 5th, the Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation (KDDW) proudly extends its warmest congratulations to all Kurds, especially the heroic Peshmerga forces, on the 34th anniversary of the Kurdistan Uprising.
Today, we commemorate one of the most significant milestones in our history—a day that symbolizes the resilience, courage, and unwavering determination of the Kurdish people in their struggle for freedom and justice. This anniversary is not only a reflection on our past sacrifices but also a renewed commitment to building a future founded on self-determination, equality, and peace.
The uprising began on March 5, 1991, in the heroic city of Ranya, earning it the title "Gateway to the Uprising." The movement quickly spread, liberating Sulaimani on March 7, Erbil on March 11, and Duhok on March 14. By March 21, Kirkuk, the heart of Kurdistan, had also joined the wave of liberation.
For centuries, the Kurdish people have endured oppression and injustice, yet we have never abandoned our identity, language, or the dream of a free and just Kurdistan. The 1991 uprising was a powerful testament to our resistance, our struggle for survival, and the unshakable dignity of our people.
On this occasion, we pay tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice, to the brave fighters who took up arms for our freedom, and to the resilient individuals who have endured exile and hardship in defense of our homeland. We also extend our deepest gratitude to those who continue the legacy of the uprising, advocating for unity, peace, and freedom.
The Kurdistan Uprising is a symbol of resistance not just for the Kurds but for all oppressed nations seeking the right to self-determination. Our strength lies in our unity, our deep connection to our land, our preservation of language and culture, and our unwavering pursuit of justice.
On this remarkable day, let us renew our solidarity, honor our past struggles, and continue working toward a brighter, freer future.
Happy Kurdistan Uprising Day!
Long live Kurdistan! Long live freedom!
