Meeting Between US and Canadian Heads of the Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation and the Office of Minnesota Senator Tina Smith

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Jehan Brifki, Head of the Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation in the United States and Canada, met with representatives from the office of Minnesota Senator Tina Smith, including Jordan Schroyer.

The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the situation in Iraq, particularly concerns regarding the proposed amendment to the Personal Status Law, which permits the marriage of girls as young as nine with parental consent. The Senator’s office had not been previously aware of this issue and expressed significant concern over its implications.

Following the discussion, the office committed to further investigating the matter and exploring potential ways to provide support and resources.
