Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation Marks International Women's Day with Calls for Equality and Justice
Statement of the Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation on the occasion of 8 March
March 8, International Women's Day, is celebrated annually in various ways around the world. Countries observe this day in unique manners, with many adopting a political character as women engage in demonstrations and strikes to advocate for their rights. This day serves as a reminder of women's ongoing struggle and sacrifices for economic, political, and social advancements.
This year, March 8th is commemorated amidst a period where women have emerged as agents of change within numerous societies, striving for equality, non-discrimination, and social justice. Despite progress, societal traditions persist, fueled by flawed policies of political entities, patriarchal ideologies, and continued violence against women.
The Kurdistan Diaspora Women's Federation celebrates this anniversary, acknowledging the tireless efforts of the global feminist movement. Throughout the year, as an international organization, we have worked to unite and amplify the voices of women in the Diaspora and within Kurdistan. Our focus remains on empowering Kurdish women, advocating for their genuine participation in decision-making processes, and ensuring equal opportunities across all sectors. We stand firm in our commitment to foster a discourse and behavior that uphold rights, social justice, and equality between genders.
Once again, we extend our congratulations to women worldwide and in Kurdistan on March 8th, honoring the proud families of martyrs and other victims within our community, and striving to create an environment of social stability.
