Congratulations and Support
The Kurdistan Diaspora Women’s Federation congratulates the Kurdish people in West Kurdistan and expresses its support for them regarding this historic event. This marks a pivotal moment for the Kurdish people in Syria in particular and for Syrians in general, as the former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad completely lost power and left the country on December 8. This event signifies the end of a dark chapter in history and the beginning of a new era of social reconstruction and unity after 53 years of oppression.
Today, Kurds around the world are closely watching developments in Syria, particularly concerned about their Kurdish brothers and sisters, and contemplating whether these changes will lead to the realization of the Kurdish people’s legitimate rights and the reconstruction of Syria.
As the Federation of Kurdistan Diaspora Women, we declare our unwavering support for our brothers and sisters in Syria. We reaffirm our commitment to standing with them, utilizing all our resources until they achieve their legitimate rights and the right to self-determination through legal means that ensure the rights of all Syrian communities.
In this context, we would like to emphasize the following points:
Constitutional Recognition of the Kurdish People in Kurdistan
Recognize the Kurdish people as an indigenous community on their historical lands, guaranteeing their national, cultural, and linguistic rights within a clear constitutional framework.
A new Syrian constitution should establish a system of political and administrative decentralization, granting the Kurds full rights to govern their regions democratically and fairly.
Protection of Self-Government Achievements
Safeguard the gains made by the Kurds through self-governance, as it represents a successful model of local governance that can be integrated into a comprehensive federal system emphasizing institutional development, democracy, and inclusive decision-making.
Kurdish Unity
Encourage unity among Kurdish parties and political forces in Syria, fostering cooperation to present a unified vision that serves Kurdish national interests.
Overcome narrow partisan differences and engage in comprehensive dialogue to ensure unity in addressing challenges.
Dialogue with Syrian and International Parties
Prioritize constructive dialogue with Syrian stakeholders to guarantee Kurdish rights and promote coexistence among all communities.
Continue engaging with the international community to garner support for the Kurdish cause, focusing on peaceful solutions that ensure stability.
Preservation of Pluralism and Coexistence
Affirm that the Kurds are an integral part of Syria's diverse fabric and play a vital role in building a new, inclusive Syria.
Respect the rights of all Syrian communities and work toward establishing a democratic and pluralistic state that upholds human rights.
While we continue to monitor the situation closely, we urge our Kurdish brothers and sisters, political parties, civil society organizations, and active forces to unite under a clear and cohesive national vision. Together, we must defend the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people and overcome the challenges they face during this critical period. Our goal is to ensure a peaceful and stable future for the Kurdish people on their ancestral lands, which have endured decades of suffering under the previous regime.
We also call on all Syrian factions to respect the country’s multi-ethnic composition and recognize the Kurdish people as an indigenous population, ensuring their legitimate rights. Furthermore, we advocate for the fair inclusion of Kurds in Syria’s ongoing political process as a fundamental part of the nation’s future.
