126th Anniversary of Kurdish Journalism Celebrated in Erbil with International Presence
On April 22, 2024, the 126th Anniversary of Kurdish Journalism was celebrated in Erbil, Kurdistan, with the presence of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw, and a significant number of international journalists from Europe, Arab countries, and Africa.
The delegation of the Executive Board of the Federation of Kurdistan Diaspora Women, comprising Shirin Zaki, President of the Federation, and two members of the Executive Committee, Darya Qadir Khoshnaw, and Hewa Fares Hussein, participated in this commemoration.
It's noteworthy that the first Kurdish newspaper, named "Kurdistan Newspaper," was published 126 years ago on April 22, 1898, in Cairo, the capital of the Ottoman province of Egypt, by Miqdad Madhat Badr Khan. The articles of the Kurdistan newspaper focused on Kurdistan's independence, encouraging and fostering the study and learning of the Kurdish language among the citizens within Kurdistan.
The Kurdistan newspaper was the first Kurdish newspaper to publish 31 issues. Issues 1-5 were published in Cairo, 6-19 in Geneva, Switzerland, 20-23 in Cairo, 24 in London, 25-29 in the South of England, and 30-31 in Geneva.
