Media Qamishlo : I was born stateless, but with passion and love, I drew the map of Kurdistan

HELSINKI — On Friday, October 23, 2026, during the Merirasti Cultural Festival (Merirastin Kulttuurijuhla) in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, the Federation of Kurdish Diaspora Women—under the leadership of Federation President Ms. Shirin Zaki and with the active participation of Chanur Qadri and other members—organized a prominent cultural and historical event.
At the event, Ms. Media Qamishlo (Murida Osman), head of the Federation of Kurdish Diaspora Women in Finland, appeared in authentic traditional Kurdish attire. With her own hands, she had crafted a map of all four parts of Greater Kurdistan, complete with the names of all its cities inscribed upon it.

Reflecting on her work, Media Qamishlo stated:
“I was born without a homeland, and I know very well what statelessness means. But I wanted to draw the map of my homeland, Kurdistan, with my own hands... with all my emotion and love for my people and my country.”
Displayed beside the map was a deep historical equation: “2 + 2 = 1; this equation is only true for the Kurds, because Kurdistan has been divided into four parts, and two parts plus two parts become one—Kurdistan!”.

Alongside serving traditional Kurdish cuisine, Media Qamishlo delivered a comprehensive half-hour historical presentation in Finnish to a multicultural audience, focusing on the history of Kurdistan, the roots of the Kurdish nation, and its national identity.
Ms. Media Qamishlo has been an active diaspora leader in Finland for many years. Working through non-governmental organizations (NGOs), she continuously contributes to culture, arts, history, Kurdish language education, and traditional dance, offering significant service to the Kurdish community and the just cause of the Kurdish people abroad.
